Gracie Abrams and Paul Mescal’s Low-Key Romance in the Spotlight
Gracie Abrams appears unfazed by the public’s interest in her relationship with actor Paul Mescal. In a cover story interview with NYLON published on Dec. 17, the “That’s So True” singer was asked about managing a relationship in the spotlight.
“That has nothing to do with me,” Abrams, 25, said simply, adding, “It doesn’t affect me.”
Abrams and Mescal, 28, were first romantically linked in June 2024 after being spotted dining together in London. Just two months later, the pair was photographed holding hands during a stroll through the city, with one playful snapshot capturing Abrams jokingly biting Mescal’s finger. A source later confirmed to PEOPLE in August that the two were “hooking up,” but described their relationship as being in the “early stages.”
Since then, the singer and actor have shown consistent support for each other’s careers. In October, Mescal was seen enthusiastically dancing and singing along at Abrams’ Radio City Music Hall concert in New York City. The following month, Abrams attended the Los Angeles premiere of Gladiator II, Mescal’s highly anticipated film.
“They’re both at the top of their game and stay in constant communication,” a source told PEOPLE. The source also revealed that the couple is planning to take a vacation together in the new year.
Most recently, the duo was seen together after making back-to-back appearances on Saturday Night Live. In a TikTok video, Mescal and Abrams were filmed exiting a car hand-in-hand as they entered a building in New York City. Abrams even stopped briefly to acknowledge fans waiting outside, saying, “Have a good night, you guys,” before heading inside.
Mescal, who gained fame for his role in Normal People, previously opened up about maintaining privacy in his personal life. In a November interview with GQ, he shared the challenges of navigating public curiosity about his relationships.
“There are certain lines in the sand now for me that are impenetrable, for the benefit of my own sanity,” Mescal said, adding that the ongoing speculation has been overwhelming at times. “It might be public interest, but it’s not public-obligated information. My private life is so precious because I get so little of it.”
Despite the increased attention, it seems the couple is handling the spotlight on their terms, balancing their thriving careers with their personal connection.
