Angel Reese Surprises Her Mom by Paying Off Her Mortgage on Her Birthday

Angel Reese Surprises Her Mom by Paying Off Her Mortgage on Her Birthday

Angel Reese recently made her mother’s birthday unforgettable with a heartfelt surprise. On January 30, the Chicago Sky star, 22, invited her mom, Angel Webb Reese—affectionately known as “Mama Angel”—to her YouTube show, Unapologetically Angel. The two spent nearly an hour discussing Reese’s basketball journey and rise to fame before the big reveal.

Reese acknowledged her mom’s birthday as a cake was brought out, then shared an incredible surprise. “Before we sing ‘Happy Birthday,’ you said that if your mortgage was paid off, you would retire or stop working,” Reese told her. “Well, today, your mortgage has been paid.”

Overcome with shock, her mother nearly dropped the cake before an assistant took it. Struggling for words, she asked in disbelief, “Are you serious?” Reese reassured her that the mortgage was officially taken care of, thanks to the help of Jamel and Janine. She also let her mom know that she could stay with her anytime since Reese plans to buy a house in Chicago this year. The emotional moment brought Mama Angel to tears.

The crew joined in singing “Happy Birthday,” though they couldn’t light the candles due to studio safety rules. Reese expressed how fulfilling this gesture was for her, stating, “That was my biggest goal in life—to retire you and pay your mortgage so you wouldn’t have to work.” She praised her mother’s independence, adding, “You never needed me for money.”

Earlier, Mama Angel had received a Four Seasons gift card, which she thought was her main present. Reese playfully teased, “Now you know I come harder than that.”

This heartwarming celebration came shortly after Reese made history by partnering with McDonald’s as their first female athlete to have a special meal. Reflecting on her childhood, she shared that she and her brother, Julian, often “fought over Happy Meal toys” and that she would save money to enjoy McDonald’s despite her parents encouraging home-cooked meals.

Reese, who was selected as the 7th pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Chicago Sky, has built a strong brand beyond basketball. While she hasn’t publicly disclosed her net worth, reports indicate she earned around $1.7 million from endorsements between 2022 and 2023, securing deals with major brands like Reebok, PlayStation, and Amazon.

Renée Zellweger and Ant Anstead Step Out Together at London Premiere Afterparty

Renée Zellweger had her biggest supporter by her side at the London premiere afterparty of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy on January 29.

The 55-year-old actress was accompanied by her boyfriend, Ant Anstead, 45, as they attended the celebration following the screening. Zellweger stunned in a pink strapless gown paired with red pointed-toe heels, while Anstead looked dapper in a dark gray three-piece suit. The couple, who have been together since 2021, were seen smiling and holding hands as they walked through the streets.

Zellweger and Anstead first met while filming Celebrity IOU Joyride and have been together ever since. Their romance was confirmed in 2021, shortly after Anstead finalized his divorce from Christina Haack. A source previously told PEOPLE, “Sometimes two people just meet and click, and the timing is right. Renée is creative, smart, and thoughtful—she’s always looking to expand horizons and support those around her.”

During an interview with the BBC at the London premiere, Zellweger admitted she was struggling with the idea that the Bridget Jones series might be coming to an end. “Let me live in denial for a little longer,” she joked, adding that she still had her “fingers crossed” that Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy wouldn’t be the final film in the franchise.

The upcoming movie, based on Helen Fielding’s novel, follows Bridget as she navigates life as a widow and single mother while stepping into the world of modern dating. She finds herself caught up with a charming younger man while also managing work, parenthood, and school politics. The story explores her struggles with judgment from “perfect mums,” concerns about her son Billy, and her complicated interactions with his pragmatic science teacher.

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be available to stream exclusively on Peacock starting February 13, 2025.

Bill Gates Reflects on His Divorce from Melinda French Gates: The Mistake I Regret the Most

Bill Gates Reflects on His Divorce from Melinda French Gates: “The Mistake I Regret the Most”

Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft and a globally renowned philanthropist, has opened up about his divorce from Melinda French Gates, calling it “the mistake I regret the most.” In a candid interview with The Times of London on January 25, the 69-year-old reflected on their 27-year marriage, their 2021 divorce, and the impact it has had on his life.

One of Gates’ biggest personal goals was to replicate the long-lasting marriage of his parents, who were together for 45 years. Speaking about this aspiration, Gates noted, “I encouraged Melinda to be a little calmer than my mother was, but we were both quite driven. I spent more time with the kids than my dad did, but the ratio was still 10:1, with Melinda handling most things for the kids. We had a great time.”

The Value of a Lifelong Partnership
Gates emphasized the significance of sharing an entire adult life with one partner, especially when raising children and working on shared projects. “There is a certain wonderfulness to spending your entire adult life with one person,” he said. The couple, who married in 1994, raised three children—Jennifer, 28; Rory, 25; and Phoebe, 22—and co-founded the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000. The foundation has become one of the world’s largest philanthropic organizations, focusing on eradicating poverty and combating disease.

“When Melinda and I met, I was fairly successful but not ridiculously successful — that came during the time we were together,” Gates shared. “She supported me through a lot. When we divorced, it was tough, and her decision to leave the foundation disappointed me.”

Melinda resigned from the foundation in May 2024, a move Gates said he found difficult to accept. However, he acknowledged the complexity of their split and its emotional toll, describing the divorce process as “miserable” for both of them for at least two years.

Coping with Regret and Moving Forward
Gates was asked whether divorce was his only major failure in life. “You would have to put that at the top of the list,” he admitted. “There are others, but none that matter as much.” Despite the challenges, Gates said he has become “more cheerful” in the nearly four years since their split, though he still considers the divorce the mistake he regrets most.

Although their marriage ended, the former couple remains in contact, especially for family events. They now share the joy of two grandchildren, Leila and Mia, from their eldest daughter Jennifer’s marriage. “Melinda and I still see each other — we have three kids and two grandchildren, so there are family events. The kids are doing well. They have good values,” Gates added.

Melinda’s Perspective on the Divorce
Melinda French Gates has also spoken openly about the divorce, describing it as a painful but transformative experience. In a 2024 interview with Time, she explained how the COVID-19 pandemic provided the privacy needed to navigate their separation. “You know, I separated first before I made the full decision about a divorce. And to be able to do that in private while I’m still trying to take care of the kids, while still making certain decisions about how you’re going to disentangle your life — thank God.”

Since the split, Melinda has embraced new opportunities and a different lifestyle. “I live in a neighborhood. Now I can walk to little stores. I can walk to the drugstore, I can walk to a restaurant,” she told Time. “I absolutely love it.”

Life After Divorce
Both Bill and Melinda have moved on with their lives while continuing to co-parent their children. Gates is now dating Paula Hurd, the widow of former Oracle executive Mark Hurd. Melinda, on the other hand, has focused on building a new chapter for herself, balancing her philanthropic work and personal life.

Despite the challenges of their divorce, Gates and Melinda have shown resilience and mutual respect, especially in their shared commitment to their family. Their story reflects the complexities of love, partnership, and personal growth, even for some of the most influential people in the world.

Justin Baldoni’s Wife Emily Speaks Out Amid His Legal Battle with Blake Lively, Shares Heartfelt Birthday Tribute

Justin Baldoni celebrated his 41st birthday on Friday, Jan. 24, with love and support from his wife, Emily Baldoni, amid his ongoing legal dispute with actress Blake Lively. Emily, 40, took to Instagram to share a touching tribute to her husband, posting a family photo and writing, “Happy birthday, my love. Celebrating the man, husband, and father that you are. I’d choose you again and again.” The couple, who tied the knot in 2013, is currently enjoying a vacation in Hawaii with their two children, Maiya, 9, and Maxwell, 7.

This public message of support comes as Baldoni finds himself embroiled in a heated legal battle with Lively, 37. In December, Lively filed a lawsuit accusing the It Ends With Us director and actor of sexual harassment and retaliatory actions. Her complaint alleges that Baldoni engaged in “invasive, unwelcome, unprofessional, and sexually inappropriate behavior,” which she claims caused her “grief, fear, trauma, and extreme anxiety.” Lively’s legal team described her allegations as serious and said they are supported by evidence.

In response, Baldoni has vehemently denied the accusations and filed a $400 million countersuit against Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, 48, and their publicist. Baldoni’s lawsuit accuses them of defamation and extortion, claiming their actions were an attempt to tarnish his reputation. Bryan Freedman, Baldoni’s attorney, called Lively’s claims “false, outrageous, and intentionally salacious.”

Lively’s legal team responded to Baldoni’s countersuit, labeling it “meritless” and “another chapter in the abuser playbook.” They added, “The strategy of attacking the woman is desperate, it does not refute the evidence in Ms. Lively’s complaint, and it will fail.”

Despite the intense legal drama, Baldoni has maintained a calm public demeanor. When approached by TMZ at Los Angeles International Airport on Jan. 17, he expressed gratitude for his family, saying, “Grateful to be with the family, man. We have amazing friends and family. And faith.” Emily’s public birthday tribute seems to underscore their family’s unity during this challenging time.

Meanwhile, Blake Lively has kept a low profile since the lawsuits were filed. However, Ryan Reynolds has made several public appearances, including attending the National Board of Review gala on Jan. 7, delivering a talk at Harvard Business School, and surprising friend Hugh Jackman during the opening night of his show at Radio City on Jan. 24.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Baldoni and Lively’s allegations continue to capture public attention. The case not only highlights serious issues of workplace conduct but also underscores the intense scrutiny faced by public figures in legal disputes.

With both sides fiercely defending their positions, the legal battle between Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively is far from over. For now, Baldoni seems to be focusing on his family and maintaining a strong front, while the entertainment industry watches closely for further developments.

Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell Go Viral Ahead of You’re Cordially Invited Release

Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell are bringing both laughs and fun to their fans on and off the screen. While their characters may clash in the upcoming Prime Video comedy You’re Cordially Invited, the two actors are proving to be the perfect team in real life by hopping on the latest TikTok trend. Their recent video, posted on Witherspoon’s TikTok on Friday, Jan. 24, has fans buzzing as they recreate the viral “Messy” dance trend to Lola Young’s hit song. The trend, originally popularized in November by Sofia Richie Grainge and Jake Shane, has been making waves on social media, and Witherspoon and Ferrell’s take is no exception.

In the video, Witherspoon, 48, and Ferrell, 57, are seen rocking coordinated black and gray outfits. Ferrell kicks things off solo, hilariously imitating Shane’s signature moves of walking in place and shaking his hands to the beat. Soon after, Witherspoon joins the frame, shaking her hips and mouthing the lyrics, perfectly channeling Richie Grainge’s iconic moves from the original TikTok. Captioned, “Us? Messy? Wait until you see our movie… 💌👀,” the playful video has already racked up over 4 million views. The post even caught the attention of Sofia Richie Grainge herself, who commented, “Life. Made.”

The buzz around this fun TikTok moment ties perfectly into the excitement for You’re Cordially Invited, set to release on Thursday, Jan. 30. The film, directed and written by Nicholas Stoller, follows the chaos and hilarity that ensue when two weddings are mistakenly booked at the same venue on the same day. Ferrell plays the father of one bride, while Witherspoon stars as the sister of the other. Both are determined to ensure their respective family’s big day goes off without a hitch, even as the unexpected shared space forces them to butt heads in increasingly chaotic and comedic ways.

Adding to the fun are Meredith Hagner and Geraldine Viswanathan, who star as the brides, with a stellar supporting cast that includes Jimmy Tatro, Stony Blyden, Leanne Morgan, Rory Scovel, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Ramona Young, and Celia Weston. With its star-studded ensemble and laugh-out-loud premise, the film promises to be a must-watch for comedy fans and anyone who loves a feel-good wedding flick.

Whether it’s their TikTok antics or their upcoming on-screen rivalry, Witherspoon and Ferrell are proving why they’re Hollywood favorites. Fans of comedy, heartfelt stories, and viral trends won’t want to miss You’re Cordially Invited when it premieres on Prime Video this January.

Cameron Diaz Return

Cameron Diaz is giving props to her costar Jamie Foxx!

The actress, 52, shared on a Friday, Jan. 17 episode of The Graham Norton Show that her return to the screen in the pair’s latest Netflix action-comedy, Back in Action, is “all thanks to” Foxx, 57.

“I had 10 years of not paying attention to anything; not accepting any advances, and then I got this script and thought that maybe it was time,” Diaz said. “If I was going to leave my family for 10 hours a day I wanted to do it with the most talented man in the entertainment business.”

“It is a privilege to make films, and we are all so lucky to do what we do,” she added. “That the door was even open for me after a decade was amazing. I loved those 10 years for me and my family, but I thought, ‘If I let this go away, if I don’t engage again, and if I don’t give it a chance, I am a fool.’ It might be the beginning of something, but it’s here now and I am grateful for it.”

Back in Action marks Diaz’s first film since 2014’s Annie, which also starred Foxx. The pair first appeared on screen together in 1999’s Any Given Sunday.

In addition to Foxx, Diaz has also previously credited her husband, Benji Madden, with encouraging her to return to her professional career after an extended hiatus. Cameron Diaz recently praised her co-star Jamie Foxx for inspiring her return to acting after a decade-long break. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show on January 17, Diaz, 52, credited Foxx, 57, for her comeback in their Netflix action-comedy Back in Action.

Diaz shared that she had spent ten years focusing on her family and not considering film projects, but the opportunity to work with Foxx again reignited her passion for acting. “If I was going to leave my family for 10 hours a day, I wanted to do it with the most talented man in the entertainment business,” she said.

She expressed gratitude for the chance to return, acknowledging the privilege of making films and the importance of embracing opportunities. Back in Action is her first film since Annie in 2014, where she also starred alongside Foxx. Their on-screen collaboration began with Any Given Sunday in 1999.

Diaz has also attributed her return to acting to her husband, Benji Madden, who encouraged her to refocus on her professional career after dedicating time to family life. During a 2024 appearance at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, she mentioned that Madden supported her decision, emphasizing her role as a mother and businesswoman.

Though Diaz remains open to future projects, she expressed uncertainty about continuing her acting career, reserving the right to decline or accept roles based on her family’s needs. Reflecting on her time off, she highlighted focusing on her children and her wine brand, Avaline, which she co-founded in 2020.

Back in Action is now available for streaming on Netflix.

“He’s just the best,” the actress said of Madden, 45, during an October 204 conversation at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit per E! News, “We were in the house for a long time, which was amazing.”

According to Diaz, Madden, who shares daughter Raddix, 5, and son Cardinal with Diaz, “was like, ‘You’ve been supporting us and building the family.’ And supporting him in his businesses. He’s like, ‘It’s time for us to support you and let Mommy ascend and do her thing.’ “

Diaz revealed in an interview with Empire on Monday, Dec. 13, that it’s “hard to say” if she’ll return for another film after Back in Action. “I don’t know how I view it. It’s hard to say,” Diaz said. “If I say it then it becomes this thing. I reserve the right to say no to doing a movie ever again, and I reserve the right to say yes if I decide to.”

“I’m not defining anything. I’m just open to whatever makes sense for me and my family at any given moment,” she said, adding that she’s interested in “no more romcoms, only momcoms.”

The actress also shared in a behind-the-scenes clip with Netflix this week that she “didn’t think” she’d be making another film and was “perfectly happy just living my life” before she got the call from Foxx.

“How do you say no to Jamie Foxx when he says, ‘Hey, I’ve got this big action comedy that we can just have so much fun on,'” she said. “If there’s anyone I’m gonna go back and spend months on end, on set, having a ball, laughing with, it would be Jamie.”

Diaz added that while she was on hiatus, she put “most of my focus” on her children and her wine company, Avaline, which she launched in 2020.

Back in Action is now available to stream on Netflix.

Kat Dennings Interview

Kat Dennings has never let Hollywood’s opinions about her appearance affect her self-confidence.

Over her decades-long career, the 38-year-old star of the new ABC sitcom Shifting Gears has faced numerous discouraging comments regarding her looks. In a conversation with PEOPLE, she shared how she learned to dismiss such critiques from an early age and prove her critics wrong.

“When I was starting out, the industry was very different. Inclusivity wasn’t prioritized, and the feedback could be extremely harsh,” she recalled. “Casting directors would make negative comments, even about children. I was 12 when I was told I wasn’t pretty enough and was too fat after an audition.”

Dennings developed resilience early on, refusing to internalize the criticism. “Instead of believing their judgments, I thought, ‘I’ll show them.’ My parents supported me and reminded me those critics were wrong,” she said.

Reflecting on the industry today, Dennings noted positive progress. “Now, there’s more body positivity, inclusivity, and representation. It feels much kinder compared to how it used to be.”

After years of persistence, Dennings has built a successful career and now stars alongside Tim Allen in Shifting Gears. The sitcom centers on Matt (Allen), a widowed classic car restorer whose estranged daughter Riley (Dennings) moves back into his home with her children.

Before landing the role, Dennings felt uncertain about her next career step. “I was in a dark place, unsure of my next move. When a friend asked me to think about my dream job, I realized I missed working on a multi-cam sitcom. The next day, I got the call for this show. It felt meant to be.”

Working with Tim Allen was a highlight for her. “He’s Santa Claus and Buzz Lightyear! Growing up, he was a big part of my childhood, so working with him was surreal in the best way. He’s a genuinely kind person,” she shared.

Naomi Watts Tribute

Naomi Watts is mourning the loss of her Mulholland Drive director, David Lynch, who died at the age of 78, his family announced on Thursday, Jan. 16.

On Instagram, Watts, 56, shared a heartfelt tribute reflecting on her relationship with Lynch both professionally and personally. “My heart is broken. My Buddy Dave… The world will not be the same without him. His creative mentorship was truly powerful,” she wrote. The post included two photos—one of her kissing Lynch’s lipstick-stained cheek—and a behind-the-scenes clip where Lynch invited her to slap him playfully.

Watts continued, “He put me on the map. I had been trying to break into the industry for over a decade, facing constant rejection. Then I met this curious man, beaming with light, who made me laugh and feel at ease.” She expressed gratitude for his wisdom, humor, and encouragement, which helped her believe in herself in a way she never had before. “David’s storytelling elevated cinema and inspired generations of filmmakers worldwide. I cannot believe he’s gone. I’m in pieces but forever grateful for our friendship.”

Watts has long credited Lynch for her career breakthrough. On the 20th anniversary of Mulholland Drive in 2021, she acknowledged the film’s impact on her life, stating, “This film changed my career. David Lynch changed my life. I’m forever grateful.”

The two collaborated again on Lynch’s 2006 experimental film Inland Empire, which included footage of Watts from his 2002 online project Rabbits. She also starred in his 2017 Twin Peaks revival, playing Janey-E Jones in a 10-episode arc.

In a 2017 interview with The Guardian, Watts recalled her early struggles in Hollywood, stating she often felt defeated and unseen. “I was giving myself away, my soul was being destroyed. David changed that. He made eye contact, asked genuine questions, and took the time to unveil the layers of who I was.”

Lynch, a four-time Oscar nominee, is survived by his four children. His loss has resonated deeply within the film community. Twin Peaks and Dune star Kyle MacLachlan also paid tribute, stating, “While the world has lost a remarkable artist, I’ve lost a dear friend who imagined a future for me and allowed me to travel in worlds I could never have conceived on my own.”

Watts’ recent projects include Netflix’s The Watcher and The Friend alongside Bill Murray. Her performance in FX’s Feud: Capote vs. The Swans has earned her nominations at the Emmy Awards, Golden Globes, and the upcoming Critics Choice Awards.
