Meri Brown Reflects on the End of Her Marriage to Kody Brown and Her Move to Utah

In the Sunday, Nov. 17 episode of Sister Wives, Meri Brown opened up about the struggles and eventual breakdown of her 32-year marriage to Kody Brown as she prepared for a new chapter in Utah. The move, spurred by her plans to manage her bed and breakfast, Lizzie’s Heritage Inn, also prompted Meri to reflect on the difficult moments that led to the end of their polygamous union.

Speaking with her best friend Jenn Sullivan and Jenn’s husband while painting the inn, Meri shared how Kody repeatedly asked her to make changes in an effort to salvage their relationship. “He had a list of things he wanted me to do so we could work on our marriage,” Meri explained. “But once I completed that list, he was done with me. I now realize there was nothing more he could use as an excuse not to work on our relationship because I had done everything he asked.”

Now officially single following the termination of her marriage within their church, Meri admitted she isn’t ready to date yet. Jenn joked that Meri has “been single for like, a month—or 10 years,” alluding to the decade-long distance between her and Kody after her catfishing scandal.

In another scene, Meri informed Kody and Robyn Brown of her decision to move to Utah sooner than planned. While Kody questioned her reasoning, Meri jokingly requested his help with the move as her “severance package,” noting she didn’t receive alimony when they legally divorced in 2014.

Reflecting on the upcoming move, Meri expressed a sense of empowerment. “I’m ready to take control of my life and my limbo,” she said.

Kody admitted to feeling a mix of emotions about Meri’s decision. Though he believed the move was ultimately positive for her, he described it as “the end of an era,” revealing a bittersweet nostalgia. “I’ve got a bit of a nostalgic heart, and it’s a little broken,” he shared.

Robyn also noted Kody’s emotional state, saying, “I can see Kody is sad and has gotten emotional several times about this, but this is what he chose.”

The teaser for next week’s episode hinted at more emotional moments as Meri and Kody worked together to clear her Flagstaff home. While their lighthearted exchange included Kody referring to Meri as his “favorite ex-wife,” his emotions came to the forefront as he tearfully reflected on their shared past. “We had something special,” Kody said.
