Kevin Costner Receives France’s Order of Arts and Letters at Cannes Film Festival

 

Kevin Costner was awarded France’s Order of Arts and Letters at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, adding another accolade to his illustrious career. The actor and producer, known for his role in Yellowstone, also garnered a seven-minute standing ovation at the festival for his upcoming film, Horizon: An American Saga.

French Culture Minister Rachida Dati praised Costner during her tribute speech, highlighting his representation of the American spirit and love for culture shared on both sides of the Atlantic. She paid homage to his iconic role in the 1992 blockbuster The Bodyguard, referencing the film’s hit track, “I Will Always Love You,” before presenting him with the honorary ribbon medal.

The Order of Arts and Letters is among France’s most esteemed honors, with previous recipients including Neil Jordan, Sharon Stone, Johnnie To, Tim Burton, and Diane Kruger.

Expressing his gratitude, Costner remarked, “Being honored in this way at the Cannes Film Festival, the international home of cinema, with my own film about to play, trying to find the right words is difficult.” He reflected on his life journey, acknowledging the significance of the moment and expressing his deep appreciation.

Horizon: An American Saga, set for release on June 28, 2024, promises to captivate audiences with Costner’s cinematic prowess.

We’re great.” He went on to explain that Trista is currently in a period of personal exploration and has taken up an opportunity with the support of her family, which has temporarily made her inaccessible to them. Expressing his longing for her, Ryan concluded the post with, “I miss her. We miss her.”

This statement followed a series of photos Ryan shared on May 12, which hinted at Trista’s absence from their family unit. In one post, Ryan reflected on their relationship, noting the rarity of not being in regular communication with his wife.

Ryan and Trista’s relationship began on the set of Bachelorette Season 1, culminating in their televised wedding in December 2003. Olivia Rodrigo Reunites with Lily Allen Onstage in London for ‘Smile’ Performance

Olivia Rodrigo delighted fans during her latest tour stop in London by bringing out Lily Allen for a special onstage reunion. The 21-year-old Grammy winner, performing at London’s O2 Arena as part of her Guts World Tour on Friday, May 17, reunited with Allen nearly two years after their last performance together at Glastonbury in 2022.

“The best day of my whole career was when I got to sing with her a few years ago at Glastonbury,” Rodrigo told the crowd, expressing her admiration for Allen before introducing her. “I absolutely adore her. Would you please give it up for Ms. Lily Allen!”

Once Allen, 39, joined Rodrigo onstage, the duo performed Allen’s 2006 hit “Smile,” taking turns singing lead and harmonizing for the chorus. Their heartfelt reunion culminated in a lengthy hug, with Rodrigo encouraging her fans to show their appreciation for Allen.

Allen shared her reflections on Instagram, posting behind-the-scenes photos from the surprise performance and expressing gratitude to Rodrigo: “Been a while since I’ve sang at the O2. What a lovely crowd. What a lovely crew. Thank you @oliviarodrigo x”

Rodrigo also shared her excitement on Instagram Stories, captioning a video of the performance with, “Last night at the O2 with the coolest girl in the whole world,” and posting a wholesome backstage photo of the pair.

This reunion marks their second collaboration, following their performance at Glastonbury in 2022, where they sang Allen’s 2008 hit “F— You.” Rodrigo dedicated the performance to “the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a s— about freedom,” in response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

Meanwhile, Rodrigo’s debut album Sour has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the most streamed album by a female artist in Spotify history. Her sophomore album Guts is currently on tour, with dates scheduled in the U.S., Asia, Australia, and beyond.

Lafferty recently did a basketball-themed photo shoot for American Eagle, promoting AE’s 24/7 Activewear Collection. These photos are giving us serious flashbacks to his days as the basketball star Nathan Scott on the CW drama, which aired from 2003 to 2012.

“It’s the oldest story in the world … Returning to the court in AE 24/7. @americaneagle #AEPartner,” the 38-year-old captioned on Instagram on Saturday, May 18.

His abs quickly caught the attention of his former One Tree Hill costars. “Bro you gotta warn the internet when you drop something like this!?” commented Sophia Bush, who played Brooke Davis. Hilarie Burton Morgan, who portrayed Peyton Sawyer, added, “What in the thirst trap is this?!?!?! James!!!!!!! Good Lord. The first look of James Gunn’s directorial Superman film has been revealed, showcasing David Corenswet as the Man of Steel donning a new Superman suit. The image was accompanied by a caption teasing the release date of the movie: “Get ready. #Superman. 7.11.25.”

The dress featured a dramatic train and cape adorned with voluminous ruffled sleeves reminiscent of an abstract rose, along with a sexy high slit, an open back, a low-cut sweetheart neckline, and skin-baring cutouts on the sides. A diamond starburst ornament with a matching red stone added a touch of sparkle to the ensemble.

Accompanied by Carolina Herrera creative director Wes Gordon on the red carpet, Shakira accessorized with simple red platform heels and a diamond rope necklace. Her long hair was styled in natural waves, and her makeup was kept simple and understated.

The Costume Institute exhibit at this year’s Met Gala showcased approximately 250 items spanning over 400 years of fashion history. Among the pieces on display were an 1877 Charles Frederick Worth silk satin ball gown and designs from iconic fashion houses such as Elsa Schiaparelli, Yves Saint Laurent, Christian Dior, and Hubert de Givenchy.

Shakira wasn’t the only celebrity making her Met Gala debut in 2024. Chris Hemsworth, one of the event’s co-chairs, attended for the first time. He was selected by Anna Wintour along with Zendaya, Jennifer Lopez, and Bad Bunny.

Although this was Shakira’s first time attending the Met Gala, she’s no stranger to high-profile events. In November 2023, she made a statement at the Latin Grammy Awards with four different show-stopping looks, including one ensemble crafted from upcycled theater curtains and deadstock velvet. Additionally, she turned heads at the VMAs in September of the previous year, accepting the video vanguard award in a stunning chainmail dress by Versace.
