Jax Media Shuts Down Development Returns to Production Focus

Jax Media, a subsidiary of Imagine Entertainment, is shutting down its development operations. The announcement was reportedly made during a staff meeting, with the company planning to consolidate all development efforts under Imagine Television. Jax Media’s development team, including executives like Dave Binegar, Head of TV, and Katie Gahamire, UK Creative Director, will depart by the end of the year. Binegar had joined a year ago, while Gahamire came on board in April.

This decision marks Jax Media’s return to its original focus as a production services company. Yolanda T. Cochran has been hired as the new Head of Production, replacing Jake Fuller, who has stepped down to pursue independent production, mostly in the sports sector. Key staff members such as Hussain Case-Ahmed, John Nemeth, and Morgan Howard, who oversee production in the UK and New York, respectively, will remain.

Co-founded by Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns in 2011, Jax Media quickly built a reputation for producing high-end content efficiently, particularly in the comedy genre. Their production portfolio includes shows like Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer, The Conners, Russian Doll, and Emily in Paris. Despite the contraction in the industry, Jax continues to handle production for a number of ongoing series, including Netflix’s Emily In Paris and David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which earned the company its 14th Primetime Emmy win last month.

In 2018, Imagine Entertainment acquired a majority stake in Jax Media, completing the acquisition by 2023. Over recent years, the company had ventured into development but found it difficult to break through in a competitive and shrinking marketplace, with no significant new projects receiving greenlights. Like many companies looking to streamline and cut costs, Imagine is consolidating its development operations to improve efficiency.
