John Mulaney and Olivia Munn Marry in Intimate Ceremony Amid Health Struggles
John Mulaney and Olivia Munn are now officially married. The couple, comprising the former Saturday Night Live star and the X-Men: Apocalypse actress, tied the knot in a small, private ceremony held at a friend’s house in New York state over the weekend. PEOPLE reported that the attendees were limited to their 2-year-old son Malcolm Hiep and Law and Order actor Sam Waterston, who served as the witness. This announcement comes four months after Munn revealed her “terrifying” breast cancer diagnosis in March.
In 2023, Munn was diagnosed with bilateral breast cancer, specifically a fast-growing and aggressive type called luminal B, affecting both breasts. She underwent a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery to combat the disease. Over the past ten months, she has had four surgeries, including a hysterectomy in April 2024. Munn expressed deep gratitude for Mulaney’s support during these challenging times, saying, “It would’ve felt like climbing an iceberg without him. He didn’t have a moment to himself, between being an incredibly hands-on father and going to and from the hospital, taking Malcolm to the park, putting him to nap, driving to Cedars-Sinai, hanging out with me, going home, putting Malcolm to bed, coming back to me, and he did it all happily.”
Munn and Mulaney’s relationship became public in May 2021. By September, Mulaney announced on Late Night with Seth Meyers that they were expecting a baby. Earlier this year, rumors of their marriage started circulating when Mulaney posted and then quickly removed a photo of himself wearing a wedding ring. The couple has been together since 2021, following Mulaney’s separation from his ex-wife, Anna Marie Tendler, after nearly seven years of marriage.
Mulaney has shared that meeting Olivia Munn after becoming sober was transformative. He told Meyers, “I got into this relationship that’s been really beautiful with someone incredible who has dealt with the non-Coked up Bambi version of me. And that’s been very incredible, and she’s kind of held my hand through that hell, and we’re having a baby together. We’re both really, really happy.”
Before their marriage, Munn was busy filming her upcoming Apple TV series, Your Friends and Neighbors, while Mulaney had just wrapped up his live Netflix show, Everybody’s in LA*, and continued his ongoing comedy tour.
