Artem Chigvintsev Arrested Days After Celebrating Anniversary with Nikki Garcia
Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia (formerly Nikki Bella) celebrated their second wedding anniversary just two days before the Dancing with the Stars pro was arrested.
Chigvintsev, 42, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, posting wedding day photos with the caption, “Happy anniversary my love, can’t see my life without you. You are my everything ❤️”
Garcia, 40, also reflected on their relationship, sharing the lyrics to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and a video from their wedding day. “This song is our love story,” she wrote, recalling a moment of clarity when she realized she was falling in love with Chigvintsev and that their relationship was meant to be. She ended her post with, “Happy Anniversary @theartemc I love you! ❤️🔥”
However, just two days after their anniversary, Chigvintsev was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 29, according to TMZ. Intake records obtained by PEOPLE indicate he was charged with corporal injury to a spouse and set on $25,000 bail. Though details are not yet clear, it is presumed that Garcia is the spouse involved in the incident.
PEOPLE has reached out to representatives for both Chigvintsev and Garcia for comment.
The couple first met in 2017 as partners on Dancing with the Stars when Garcia was still engaged to John Cena. They split a year later, and Garcia reconnected with Chigvintsev, confirming their romance in March 2019. They announced their engagement later that year and welcomed their first child, son Matteo, in July 2020.
In November 2020, Garcia revealed on the Tamron Hall Show that they had started couples counseling after Matteo’s birth, emphasizing their desire to balance their relationship and parenting. A year later, she shared on The Bellas Podcast that they had worked through a challenging period, particularly when she and Matteo were apart from Chigvintsev while she was a judge on AGT: Extreme. She acknowledged the difficulty of being away from him for an extended period, saying, “Teo goes everywhere with mama. That’s where he’s comfortable, that’s where he does best.”
