Jennifer Garner Embraces Festive Holiday Style in a Throwback Candy-Cane Look
Jennifer Garner is fully embracing the holiday spirit with her perfectly on-theme style! On Sunday, Dec. 15, the actress shared a throwback photo on her Instagram Stories alongside Family Switch co-star Ed Helms, both dressed in coordinating candy-cane outfits. The snapshot was taken on the set of the 2023 Netflix Christmas film, which premiered earlier this year.
In the photo, Garner, 52, is seen donning a red-and-white striped strapless dress adorned with diagonal candy-cane patterns and a big red bow cinched at her waist. Her festive ensemble was completed with shiny red Mary Jane heels and a playful headband featuring red-and-white candy-cane sticks. To elevate the look further, she added white drop earrings, a bold red lip, and matching red nails.
Standing beside her, Helms, 50, brought his own playful twist to the candy-cane theme. He sported a giant striped candy-cane hat, a red-and-white waistcoat matching Garner’s ensemble, a white dress shirt, red bow tie, and bright red trousers. Completing his holiday look were red-and-white sneakers that tied everything together.
Garner gave credit where it was due, tagging her co-star Ed Helms and costume designer Susie DeSanto in the festive photo. DeSanto is no stranger to working with Garner, having previously designed costumes for her films Yes Day and the beloved 13 Going on 30.
In Family Switch, Garner plays a mom who hilariously swaps bodies with her teenage daughter, portrayed by Wednesday actress Emma Myers. Helms, who plays her on-screen husband, switches bodies with their teenage son, played by Brady Noon of Good Boys fame.
The festive throwback isn’t the first time Garner has shown off this candy-cane-inspired outfit. In November 2023, she posted a playful video on TikTok that showcased her transformation into the holiday look. The video began with Garner on set in casual attire — a relaxed navy blue T-shirt, loose jeans, and matching sneakers — as she smiled at the camera with her hands on her hips.
With a quick twirl and transition, she transformed into her candy-cane dress, complete with the whimsical headband and holiday-ready glam. The clip captured Garner twirling, kicking her leg in the air, shimmying her shoulders, and playfully approaching the camera, radiating joy.
Garner continued to embrace festive style beyond the set of Family Switch. For the Los Angeles premiere of the holiday film in November 2023, she stunned in a red mini dress that perfectly captured the holiday season’s vibrant spirit. The elegant dress featured an asymmetrical layered hem, and she paired it with black open-toe heels and statement dangling earrings embellished with sparkling details.
