Matthew McConaughey might pride himself on being a “tuna fish salad master maker,” but his wife, Camila Alves McConaughey, has her own thoughts on his bold recipe.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Camila shared her perspective on the actor’s now-viral tuna salad, which he described in detail during an appearance on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave podcast. Matthew explained that his signature creation starts with “good tuna” and a base of mayonnaise mixed with wasabi, lemon, and vinegar. The recipe also includes an extensive list of additions like red onion, dill pickles, crispy jalapeños, apple, agave, corn, and frozen peas. According to Matthew, the key is letting it sit overnight, allowing the flavors to blend perfectly.

While the internet reacted with a mix of curiosity and disbelief, Camila vouched for her husband’s culinary skills. “He’s a master at the tuna fish salad,” she said, adding that attempts to replicate it don’t come close. Though she refrained from revealing too many details, she acknowledged, “It’s not just a traditional tuna salad. He puts all kinds of stuff in there.”

Cooking is a family affair in the McConaughey household. Camila explained that everyone, including their three children—Levi, 16, Vida, 14, and Livingston, 11—contributes in the kitchen. “Even my 11-year-old cooks Sunday breakfast,” she said. While grilling is Matthew’s specialty, Camila often handles game-day meals, especially during University of Texas football games, a family tradition.

Camila, who recently partnered with Crock-Pot, shared that having the right tools helps her balance cooking with family time. “When I’m in the kitchen while everyone is watching the game, it can feel like I’m missing out.
