Celine Dion and Lady Gaga to Perform at Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony
Celine Dion is set to perform at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games on Friday, alongside Lady Gaga. This exciting news is just one highlight for the French-Canadian singer.
The documentary “I Am: Celine Dion,” which covers her remarkable career and recent health challenges, has become Prime Video’s most popular documentary. Released on June 25, it has significantly boosted her music streams by 33% worldwide, according to Amazon MGM Studios.
Directed by Irene Taylor, the film traces Dion’s rise to fame from her early days in Québec, where she released her first album at age 13, to her selling over 250 million records, winning six Grammys, performing at the Academy Awards, and recording the Oscar-winning “My Heart Will Go On” from Titanic. The documentary also addresses her diagnosis with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that has at times prevented her from singing. In an emotional moment, Dion tearfully shares her struggles with the condition, saying, “It’s very difficult for me to hear this, and to show this to you.”
Irene Taylor expressed gratitude for Dion’s trust during the documentary’s creation, highlighting the film’s authenticity and Amazon’s commitment to sharing Dion’s story. Prime Video did not release specific viewing data, but the documentary has joined the ranks of popular titles like “Bye Bye Barry,” “Kelce,” and “The Blue Angels.”
Produced by Irene Taylor with Vermilion Films and Sony Music Vision, and featuring executive producers from Les Productions Feeling and Sony Music Entertainment Canada, “I Am: Celine Dion” showcases the singer’s present-day challenges and triumphs. Brianna Oh, head of documentary features at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the film’s portrayal of Dion’s story and the positive response from fans.
Dion’s upcoming performance, her first in four years, will feature a duet with Lady Gaga, singing Édith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose” to open the Summer Games on the Seine in Paris. According to Deadline’s Melanie Goodfellow, Dion arrived in Paris on Monday evening and was spotted at a Dior fitting, while Lady Gaga was seen rehearsing on a floating platform on the Seine.
