Sisi Returns: Behind the Scenes of the Fourth Season

Shooting has commenced for the fourth season of Beta’s popular series “Sisi,” which delves into the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Exclusive images from the set of the upcoming season have been unveiled by Variety. The new season is set to feature 24 one-hour episodes.

Dominique Devenport and Jannik Schümann will return to their respective roles as Sisi and Franz, with Sven Bohse, known for his work on “Dark Woods,” back in the director’s chair for the latest season.

In the upcoming season, Sisi finds herself challenging Bavaria’s top jockey to a high-stakes horse race in a bid to rescue her family’s estate, Castle Possenhofen, following her father’s passing. As she ventures back to her homeland, she confronts unsettling family secrets, leading her to question her true sense of belonging.

Since its debut season, “Sisi” has consistently ranked as the most-watched series on the RTL+ streaming platform and has garnered impressive viewership ratings across Germany, Italy, France, Austria, and the Netherlands, among other countries. The royal drama has been sold to over 120 territories worldwide.

Over the years, the 19th-century Austrian royal figure has attained international cult status, initially brought to the screen in the renowned 1950s “Sissi” trilogy by Ernst Marischka, starring Romy Schneider.

The fourth season’s scripts have been crafted by returning head writers Robert Krause and Elena Hell. Michael Schreitel will serve as the Director of Photography, while Jan Freels and Andreas Gutzeit will produce for Story House Pictures. Sylke Poensgen and Hauke Bartel will serve as executive producers for RTL, with Greta Gilles and Julian Schmelcher on board as part of RTL’s editorial team.

The new season of “Sisi” is being produced by Story House Pictures for RTL in collaboration with Beta Film.
