Courtney Stodden Flushed 5-Carat Engagement Ring
Courtney Stodden has cleared their new home of any remnants from their previous relationship with ex-fiancé Chris Sheng, including discarding their 5-carat engagement ring. In a video shared exclusively by TMZ, the 29-year-old, who is non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, filmed themselves throwing the ring into the toilet.
“Just doing a little last-minute spring cleaning before summer,” Stodden said before retrieving the diamond ring from their jewelry box. “I guess diamonds aren’t always a girl’s best friend after all,” they added, walking to the toilet and flushing the ring away. They then waved at the toilet, chuckled, and said, “Onto the next chapter.”
Stodden explained to TMZ that their decision was inspired by a scene from James Cameron’s Titanic. “Like the little old lady who dropped it into the ocean in the end, I needed to rid myself of any remnants from the past that no longer had any hold on me. Rose’s character taught me something special – what a woman does with her diamonds is her prerogative,” they said.
In July 2023, a source confirmed to PEOPLE that Stodden ended their engagement to filmmaker Sheng, 44. “Courtney is now a single woman,” their rep stated to Page Six. “She is looking forward to telling her story.” Sheng had proposed in 2021, and Stodden announced the news on Instagram, though the post has since been deleted.
Before their relationship with Sheng, Stodden was married to actor Doug Hutchison, whom they wed in 2011 at the age of 16. The couple divorced in 2020. Recently, Stodden has been romantically linked to producer Jared Safier. They began dating the Emmy winner, 41, last summer, and their romance is reportedly “moving very fast and is very serious,” according to an insider. Safier is reportedly ring shopping and plans to propose soon.
