Elaine Welteroth Announces Second Pregnancy at birthFUND Brunch Fundraiser
Elaine Welteroth, the 37-year-old judge on Project Runway, delighted attendees at the birthFUND Brunch Fundraiser on June 13 by announcing her second pregnancy.
“This was not part of my plan. This is God’s plan. But as we were building birthFUND, I happened to find out that my baby’s going to be part of the first birthFUND cohort. So, let’s go! Let’s go,” she shared enthusiastically during her speech. “And Kimberly and Allegra are my midwives again. So let’s do this, joyfully. Thank you all so much.”
Welteroth and her husband, Jonathan Singletary, welcomed their first child, son Silver Isley, in April 2022. The couple shared their joy with an Instagram video documenting moments from the pregnancy.
Speaking to PEOPLE at the event, Welteroth reflected on how her current pregnancy differs from her first, noting that she feels “honestly so much better.”
“So good and so much better than I did last time because this time I have a midwife from the beginning,” she explained. “Last time I didn’t even discover midwifery until my third trimester. I didn’t even work up the nerve to do a home birth until week 36. So this time, my experience of pregnancy has transformed because I have access.”
Welteroth, who initiated birthFUND to support midwifery for new mothers, also discussed how being in the early stages of establishing the coalition impacted her journey to becoming a mother of two.
“I think I’m just in such a different stage of life. My mindset is in a different place. I found out about this pregnancy when I was in the beginning of building birthFUND. I was building my team. I was making hires. I was working around the clock, literally 16-hour days, just back-to-back,” she shared.
While the news of her second pregnancy came as a surprise, Welteroth embraced it with surrender, believing it to be part of a larger plan that deepened her connection to her work.
“I guess this is part of the bigger master plan, and it deepened the meaning of this work because it felt even more personal,” she expressed. “I’m like, wow, these families that we’re supporting, they’re going to be giving birth at the same time as me. We’re going to be doing this together.”
