Ana De Armas Shines in Ballerina: A New Chapter in the John Wick World

Ana De Armas Shines in Ballerina: A New Chapter in the John Wick World

Ana De Armas takes center stage in the highly anticipated first trailer for Ballerina, a spin-off set within the action-packed John Wick universe. Officially titled From The World of John Wick: Ballerina, the film follows De Armas as she portrays a ballerina who becomes an assassin, blending the graceful art of dance with the brutal world of contract killing. The project has been in the works for several years, with production starting in 2022. Initially, the movie was slated for a June 2024 release, but in early 2023, Lionsgate announced that the release would be delayed by a year to June 6, 2025. This delay was reportedly to allow Chad Stahelski, the visionary director behind the John Wick series, to collaborate with Ballerina director Len Wiseman on elevating the film’s action sequences. As a result, additional action scenes were filmed later in 2023.

The John Wick franchise has become a key asset for Lionsgate, emerging as one of its most lucrative and celebrated series. Since the first John Wick film debuted in 2014 with Keanu Reeves in the title role, the franchise has evolved into a global phenomenon. With its unique blend of stylized action, intricate world-building, and a compelling anti-hero, the series has gained a dedicated fanbase. Keanu Reeves’ stoic portrayal of John Wick has cemented the character as a modern action icon. To date, the series has released four films, with John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023) marking the highest-grossing installment at $440 million worldwide. Talks of a potential John Wick 5 are ongoing, hinting that the saga of the deadly yet honorable assassin may not yet be over.

Ballerina takes place within the timeline of the John Wick universe, specifically set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4. Ana De Armas’ character, a ballerina-turned-assassin, is likely to follow the same morally ambiguous path as John Wick himself. Fans of the franchise will also be treated to a cameo appearance by Keanu Reeves, tying the spin-off even more closely to the main storyline. The ensemble cast includes an impressive array of talent, featuring Anjelica Huston, who reprises her role as “The Director” from John Wick 3, as well as Gabriel Byrne, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, and Ian McShane, who returns as Winston, the manager of the Continental Hotel. The film also marks one of the final performances of Lance Reddick, who tragically passed away in 2023. Reddick’s role as Charon, the Continental’s loyal concierge, has been beloved by fans throughout the series, and his appearance in Ballerina will serve as a poignant tribute to his legacy.

With a screenplay penned by Shay Hatten, who also wrote John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, the spin-off is expected to deliver the high-octane action, intricate choreography, and emotional depth that fans have come to expect from the franchise. Given Stahelski’s involvement in crafting new action sequences, Ballerina aims to maintain the kinetic energy and balletic fight scenes that are the hallmark of the John Wick films, while also introducing a fresh perspective through De Armas’ character.

As the John Wick universe continues to expand with spin-offs like Ballerina and the upcoming The Continental series, it’s clear that the appeal of this world, with its complex hierarchy of assassins, strict codes of conduct, and visually stunning action, shows no signs of slowing down. Ballerina promises to be a compelling addition to this beloved universe, offering fans a new protagonist to root for and a deeper exploration of the dark and fascinating underworld that John Wick inhabits. All eyes are on Ana De Armas as she steps into the world of high-stakes assassinations, bringing a unique mix of elegance and deadly precision to the role. Fans will have to wait until June 2025 to see the full story unfold, but the buzz surrounding Ballerina is already building as one of the most exciting action releases on the horizon.

Nobody Wants This: A Fun Take on Love and Tradition

Nobody Wants This: A Fun Take on Love and Tradition

What if two people are perfect for each other, except for one thing? It’s a question many couples face, though not quite in the dramatic fashion we often see on television. TV shows thrive on this tension — think of Ross and Rachel’s will-they-won’t-they dynamic spanning ten seasons. Once characters like Nick and Jess from “New Girl” or Ben and Leslie from “Parks and Recreation” get together, the writers must find new conflicts or tensions to keep things interesting.

Netflix’s new romantic comedy, Nobody Wants This, created by Erin Foster, takes a fresh look at this question. The series revolves around whether a rabbi can date someone who isn’t Jewish, and while the answer seems clear, the show focuses on everything outside of that central conflict, which is what makes it compelling.

Starring Adam Brody and Kristen Bell, the series pairs two characters from very different worlds. Brody plays Noah, a well-respected rabbi recovering from a breakup with Rebecca (Emily Arlock), who was ready to settle down with him in his community. Bell plays Joanne, an agnostic sex podcast host, a persona that Noah’s traditional mother (played by Tovah Feldshuh) would likely find nightmarish.

The show appears to favor Noah, whether intentionally or not. His character and backstory are much more developed than Joanne’s, who, frustratingly, is left with untapped potential. While Noah grapples with his emotional baggage, career, and extended community, Joanne’s journey feels surface-level. The pilot introduces her as someone actively trying to make healthier relationship choices, but this is more of a statement than an actual exploration of growth. Though she has close friends, their conversations revolve around her love life and podcasting, which doesn’t get much screen time beyond some Big Spotify Meetings. In contrast, Noah’s role as a rabbi is deeply explored, becoming the focal point of the show’s conflict.

This imbalance between their characters is noticeable. For instance, Joanne’s podcast could create friction in their relationship, but instead, it strains her bond with her sister and podcast co-host Morgan (Justine Lupe), whose skepticism about the relationship deserves more attention than it gets.

The show’s central question is posed early on and remains a lingering thread throughout its ten episodes. Efforts to keep Noah and Joanne apart feel underwhelming. They take turns being open to the relationship, then switching roles conveniently. While there are missed opportunities for deeper exploration, such as Joanne’s discomfort with religion or Noah’s feelings about their relationship being public on her podcast, these plotlines aren’t fully developed. Even a double con that arises later in the series is resolved too quickly.

Despite these shortcomings, the chemistry between Brody and Bell is undeniable. Their dynamic makes the series enjoyable, and the supporting cast, although inconsistently written, is endearing. Justine Lupe and Sherry Cola bring charm to their roles, while Timothy Simons shines as Noah’s “loser sibling” in a particularly heartwarming subplot about being a dad. The show also offers an empathetic view of Rebecca, Noah’s ex, exploring how it feels to see someone move on so publicly.

Ultimately, Nobody Wants This answers its central question clearly — yes, a rabbi can date a non-Jewish woman. But it’s the journey, with all its humor and heart, that makes the show worth watching.

Beyoncé and Oasis Set to Battle for UK Stadium Dominance in Summer 2025 Amid Ticket Price Controversy

Beyoncé and Oasis Set to Battle for UK Stadium Dominance in Summer 2025 Amid Ticket Price Controversy

Beyoncé is reportedly preparing to announce a series of UK stadium shows for the summer of 2025, which could coincide with Oasis’s much-anticipated reunion tour. The 43-year-old music icon is rumored to have scheduled five performances at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as part of a world tour supporting her chart-topping album, Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé previously electrified the capital with her Renaissance World Tour in 2023, where she played five sold-out nights at the same venue.

An insider told The Sun: “Beyoncé is about to set the stage on fire. The demand for tickets will be enormous, similar to the frenzy around Oasis. Fans will be scrambling for seats.”

Oasis and Beyoncé are both at the pinnacle of their careers, and ticket sales are expected to be fierce. More than seven million people attempted to get tickets for Oasis, and Beyoncé’s fans are expected to be just as eager.

The summer of 2025 is shaping up to be a blockbuster season for live music in the UK, with major acts like Billie Eilish, Usher, and Sabrina Carpenter also scheduled to perform. Dua Lipa is already set to play two sold-out shows at Wembley Stadium.

Meanwhile, consumer advocacy group Which? has called on Oasis and Ticketmaster to address concerns over inflated ticket prices for the reunion tour. Fans were shocked when standard ticket prices more than doubled on Ticketmaster due to high demand, prompting an investigation by the UK’s competition watchdog into the use of dynamic pricing.

Which? reported receiving numerous complaints from fans who were caught off guard by the sudden price hikes. The watchdog stated that many fans were unaware of the potential for price increases until they were already in the process of purchasing tickets.

Ticketmaster has claimed that it does not set ticket prices, attributing that responsibility to event organizers who price tickets based on market value. However, Which? has shared its findings with the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), which is now investigating whether Ticketmaster’s practices may have breached consumer protection laws.

In related news, Oasis recently invited fans to participate in a private, invite-only ballot for their “final” Wembley Stadium dates. The band has extended their Live ’25 tour to include two additional London shows on September 27 and 28.

Alicia Vikander Reflects on Missing Out on Tomb Raider Sequel and the Importance of Intimacy Coordinators in Film

Alicia Vikander recently shared her disappointment about not reprising her role as Lara Croft in a Tomb Raider sequel. Vikander, known for her current role in the period drama Firebrand alongside Jude Law, portrayed the iconic video game character in the 2018 adaptation. This film served as a reboot of the franchise, which initially starred Angelina Jolie in the early 2000s. While the 2018 film received mixed reviews and earned a modest $275 million globally, Vikander was widely praised for her performance, and a sequel seemed likely with her returning as the lead.

Unfortunately, when MGM lost the rights to Tomb Raider, the sequel project was abruptly halted, leaving Vikander confused and disappointed. In a recent interview with The Independent series “Go to Bat,” where celebrities discuss their most underrated work, Vikander expressed her own sadness about not returning as Lara Croft. When the interviewer mentioned that they were sad she wouldn’t be returning to the role, Vikander replied, “Me too!” She added that she would have gladly participated in Tomb Raider 2, stating, “I had so much fun.”

During the interview, Vikander also spoke about working with her husband, actor Michael Fassbender, with whom she has two children. She described him as her best friend and a highly talented actor, sharing that working with him felt like sparring – a challenging but non-combative way of pushing each other’s limits.

Additionally, Vikander touched on the importance of intimacy coordinators in the film industry, which became more prominent following Hollywood’s #MeToo movement. She expressed disbelief at how actors used to perform sex scenes without the guidance of such coordinators, reflecting on how this often led to difficult situations, especially early in her career.

Chris and Rosie Ramsey Defend Parenting Jokes on Podcast Amid Listener Concerns

Chris and Rosie Ramsey, who are well-known for their popular podcast “Sh**ged Married Annoyed,” have addressed the concerns of some listeners regarding the way they discuss their children on the show. The couple, who got married in July 2014, often share the challenges of parenting their sons, Robin (8) and Rafe (3). Some listeners have expressed concern about the seemingly negative tone in which the Ramseys talk about their kids, but the couple remains unfazed, believing that their approach is ultimately beneficial.

Chris Ramsey, a comedian, explained in an interview with The Times that those who criticize their humor “obviously don’t get us.” He emphasized that their love for their children is unwavering, but it’s important to balance that love with honesty about the difficulties of parenting. Rosie, a children’s author, echoed this sentiment, expressing that sharing their stories might help other parents feel less guilty about their own struggles.

When asked how their sons might react to hearing these stories when they’re older, Chris was confident that it wouldn’t be an issue, noting that he plans to be open with them about how challenging they were as children. He believes that self-deprecating humor is key to developing a good sense of humor and that their children will benefit from knowing they weren’t always perfect.

Artem Chigvintsev Arrested Days After Celebrating Anniversary with Nikki Garcia

Artem Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia (formerly Nikki Bella) celebrated their second wedding anniversary just two days before the Dancing with the Stars pro was arrested.

Chigvintsev, 42, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, posting wedding day photos with the caption, “Happy anniversary my love, can’t see my life without you. You are my everything ❤️”

Garcia, 40, also reflected on their relationship, sharing the lyrics to Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling in Love” and a video from their wedding day. “This song is our love story,” she wrote, recalling a moment of clarity when she realized she was falling in love with Chigvintsev and that their relationship was meant to be. She ended her post with, “Happy Anniversary @theartemc I love you! ❤️‍🔥”

However, just two days after their anniversary, Chigvintsev was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 29, according to TMZ. Intake records obtained by PEOPLE indicate he was charged with corporal injury to a spouse and set on $25,000 bail. Though details are not yet clear, it is presumed that Garcia is the spouse involved in the incident.

PEOPLE has reached out to representatives for both Chigvintsev and Garcia for comment.

The couple first met in 2017 as partners on Dancing with the Stars when Garcia was still engaged to John Cena. They split a year later, and Garcia reconnected with Chigvintsev, confirming their romance in March 2019. They announced their engagement later that year and welcomed their first child, son Matteo, in July 2020.

In November 2020, Garcia revealed on the Tamron Hall Show that they had started couples counseling after Matteo’s birth, emphasizing their desire to balance their relationship and parenting. A year later, she shared on The Bellas Podcast that they had worked through a challenging period, particularly when she and Matteo were apart from Chigvintsev while she was a judge on AGT: Extreme. She acknowledged the difficulty of being away from him for an extended period, saying, “Teo goes everywhere with mama. That’s where he’s comfortable, that’s where he does best.”

Justin Theroux appears to be giving marriage another shot, this time with actress Nicole Brydon Bloom.

According to People, the 53-year-old actor, known for his role in “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” proposed to Bloom, 30, while in Italy for the 81st Venice International Film Festival, and she said yes.

The couple’s relationship timeline is a bit unclear, though they were reportedly first seen together at a Netflix event in New York in February 2023. By summer, they were photographed kissing in public, according to People.

Bloom has recently appeared in Max’s “The Gilded Age” and the Hulu miniseries “We Were the Lucky Ones.” In “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” Theroux plays the manipulative manager and love interest of Lydia Deetz, portrayed by Winona Ryder, who exploits their relationship for his own gain.

Angelina Jolie’s Triumphant Return in ‘Maria’

In the film “Maria,” the iconic opera singer Maria Callas reflects on a special moment from the 1949 Venice Film Festival. After the premiere of Pablo Larraín’s new film at the same festival on August 29, 2024, Angelina Jolie, who stars as Callas, will likely have her own cherished memory.

The film, recently picked up by Netflix for U.S. distribution, hints at an Oscar campaign. It centers on Callas’s final days as she reminisces about her life and endeavors to regain her extraordinary voice. The audience in Sala Grande gave a prolonged standing ovation, with applause continuing well after the credits ended. The overwhelming admiration brought Jolie and the filmmakers to tears, including screenwriter Steven Knight, who emotionally made his way through the crowd to embrace Jolie. Co-stars Pierfrancesco Favino and Alba Rohrwacher stood by Jolie’s side during the ovation, while director Larraín eventually led Jolie down the theater stairs to personally thank the audience in the orchestra seats.

With numerous films still to debut at the festival, including those featuring potential Best Actress contenders like Nicole Kidman in “Babygirl” and Lady Gaga in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” Jolie has emerged as a frontrunner for the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. This award often forecasts an Academy Award nomination. If Jolie wins, she would be the first of Larraín’s leading actresses in his historical portrait trilogy to do so. His previous films, “Jackie” and “Spencer,” had mixed results at the festival, with “Jackie” winning the Golden Osella for Best Original Screenplay in 2016, and “Spencer” leaving empty-handed in 2021.

During a press conference earlier that day, Jolie spoke about “Maria” marking her major return to the screen after several years. She shared, “I’ve needed to be home more with my family in these last years, and in that time, I’ve become more grateful to just be an artist, and play.” She expressed her gratitude for being part of the creative world alongside her cast and crew, saying, “I am grateful to be an artist in any way.”

Karla Sofía Gascón Shines in Groundbreaking Role in Emilia Pérez

Karla Sofía Gascón Shines in Groundbreaking Role in Emilia Pérez

There’s never been a film quite like Emilia Pérez, and its lead, Karla Sofía Gascón, is equally unique. Directed by Jacques Audiard, the movie features Gascón as a Mexico City cartel boss who fakes his death to undergo gender-affirming surgery in secret. Years later, now living as Emilia, she reaches out to the lawyer who helped her transition (played by Zoe Saldaña) with one last request: a reunion with the wife (Selena Gomez) and children she left behind, even though returning could have serious consequences.

This film blends multiple genres—gritty crime drama, family melodrama, trans empowerment narrative—and adds another twist: it’s a musical. The characters often break into song during love scenes or even during intense gunfights. The film’s success hinges on Gascón’s ability to embody these different aspects, making her performance one to watch. With Emilia Pérez set for a Netflix release in November, many believe Gascón could become the first openly trans actress nominated for an Oscar.

At the Cannes Film Festival in May, Gascón was the breakout star, winning a Best Actress award alongside her co-stars. With her fellow actors absent, Gascón delivered a powerful and emotional speech that became a highlight of the event. “I’ve never been given a prize,” she shared afterward. “I’ve mostly been given blows and kicks.”

Spanish-speaking audiences may recognize Gascón from Mexican telenovelas or the 2013 film Nosotros los Nobles. She transitioned six years ago, and while her transition was public, it came with many challenges. “People knew me a certain way and then I changed, so I constantly felt that I had to justify myself. I was always fighting with everyone,” she recalled. Criticism was relentless, with some claiming she was defying nature. Gascón responded with sharp wit, challenging those critics to reflect on their own lives.

During a recent lunch in Los Angeles, Gascón was animated and passionate as she recounted her journey, speaking in Spanish with a translator present. Her dynamic personality contrasts with her character Emilia, who conveys a lot with very few words. Yet, those who worked with her, including Saldaña, noted the similarities between the two. “There were moments in which I was like, what is the difference between Emilia and Karla?” Saldaña remarked. Director Audiard echoed this, saying, “I think that Emilia is Karla Sofía. I wouldn’t know where one starts and the other ends.”

Gascón, who was born in Alcobendas, Spain, has always aimed high. By 16, she was determined to make a name for herself, calling Spanish TV stations to get on screen. After some small roles, she moved to Mexico, where she found success in action-packed roles. However, her most significant personal journey—transitioning—came later in life, with Gascón admitting that the toll it took nearly drove her to despair. Supported by her wife Marisa, she underwent gender-affirming surgery, even though she feared it might end her career.

Audiard initially struggled to cast the lead for Emilia Pérez, but found what he was looking for in Gascón. Despite her initial hesitation due to the musical aspect of the film, she won the role, bringing a mix of authority and playfulness that Audiard admired. During filming, Gascón committed fully, moving to Paris and even diving into dark places from her past to bring authenticity to her role.

As the film gears up for its release, Gascón is preparing for what could be a historic awards season. Though her trans identity might draw scrutiny, she is proud of her work and determined to focus on that, rather than engaging with detractors. “I think I can contribute more just by talking about my work,” she said.

At 52, Gascón feels at peace, embracing her newfound balance and freedom. She remains focused on the present, acknowledging the significance of this moment in her career, but her main concern is what comes next. “What I’m afraid of,” she said, “is how am I going to be able to top this?”

Christina Applegate Reflects on Deep Bond with TV Dad Ed O’Neill: A Lasting Connection Beyond Married… With Children

Christina Applegate Reflects on Deep Bond with TV Dad Ed O’Neill: A Lasting Connection Beyond Married… With Children

Christina Applegate shares a deep and meaningful connection with her on-screen father, Ed O’Neill, a bond that has evolved over the years. In a heartfelt conversation on her “MeSsy” podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Applegate reminisced about her time on Married… With Children and how her relationship with O’Neill has matured since the show ended in 1997.

Reflecting on their bond, Applegate noted how O’Neill influenced her, saying, “He raised me, so if you don’t like anything about me, it’s his fault. If you do like anything about me, also his fault.” She praised O’Neill as both an actor and a person, sharing how their connection has only grown stronger with time.

Their current relationship is marked by frequent, lengthy phone conversations, something Applegate treasures. “I talk to you more than I talk to anyone else on the telephone,” she admitted to O’Neill, despite generally disliking phone calls.

O’Neill, in turn, fondly recalled working with Applegate, praising her professionalism and talent. “Christina was great. Most people know this, she’s got a photographic memory… it was great to work with her,” he said.

Applegate also opened up about the personal struggles she faced during the show’s run, including dealing with her mother’s cancer and an eating disorder. Despite the challenges, she credited O’Neill for being a supportive presence during those difficult times.

Married… With Children, which ran for 11 seasons, was a major hit for Fox, and the cast has remained close over the years. Applegate emphasized that their bond has only deepened, with regular check-ins and a sense of familial connection among the former cast members.

In a touching moment, Applegate expressed her gratitude to O’Neill, saying, “You hold a huge part of my heart. I hold you to a higher esteem than I do anybody else.”

This conversation is a testament to the lasting impact of their shared experiences on set and the enduring friendship they continue to cherish.
