Helen Hunt Reflects on Twister and New Work

Helen Hunt, the Oscar- and Emmy-winning actress, recently shared her experience of watching Twister, the 1996 hit film in which she starred as Dr. Jo Harding, a storm-chaser trying to deploy a tornado research device during an intense outbreak in Oklahoma. It had been quite some time since Hunt had seen the movie, but during the pandemic, she watched it outdoors with her teenage daughter, Makena, who had never seen it before. They set up a projector on their lawn and enjoyed it with friends. Hunt commented on how well the film still holds up, noting that not many movies stand the test of time the way Twister does.

Hunt, who rose to fame as Jamie Buchman on NBC’s Mad About You, will be sharing her memories from working on Twister and answering questions from the audience at a screening on Oct. 29 at the Kodak Center. Tickets for the event start at $42.80, with VIP tickets offering a meet-and-greet experience for $216.45.

Twister marked Hunt’s first leading role in a major film, as well as a key early role for Philip Seymour Hoffman, who played the character Dusty Davis. Hunt has often spoken about the close bond the cast formed, and she fondly remembers Hoffman. Key staff members such as Hussain Case-Ahmed, John Nemeth, and Morgan Howard, who oversee production in the UK and New York, respectively, will remain.

Co-founded by Tony Hernandez and Lilly Burns in 2011, Jax Media quickly built a reputation for producing high-end content efficiently, particularly in the comedy genre. Their production portfolio includes shows like Broad City, Inside Amy Schumer, The Conners, Russian Doll, and Emily in Paris. Despite the contraction in the industry, Jax continues to handle production for a number of ongoing series, including Netflix’s Emily In Paris and David Letterman’s My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, which earned the company its 14th Primetime Emmy win last month.

In 2018, Imagine Entertainment acquired a majority stake in Jax Media, completing the acquisition by 2023. Over recent years, the company had ventured into development but found it difficult to break through in a competitive and shrinking marketplace, with no significant new projects receiving greenlights. Like many companies looking to streamline and cut costs, Imagine is consolidating its development operations to improve efficiency.

She shared how much the movie means to her, saying she’s watched it countless times with her family.

Last year, Márquez was partnered with BBC radio presenter Nikita Kanda, who had hoped to showcase her South Asian heritage before being eliminated. Dr. Krishan reflected on the significance of this moment for representation in mainstream media. She said that growing up, she never thought she’d see Bollywood on what she called “normal” TV. She hopes that this performance will resonate not just with the South Asian community but with anyone who seeks to see something different and feel included.

She emphasized the importance of representation, expressing how meaningful the performance will be for her and her family, especially her grandmother in India. He emphasized that they had always planned for Trevor’s ex to make an appearance because of Trevor’s unique situation—a pastor who’s divorced and has moved on from a previous life. Raisani found this scenario intriguing, particularly in exploring the question of who Trevor’s ex-wife is and what their shared history looks like. He noted that Trevor’s daughter, Melody, also adds complexity to the story, as previous episodes have shown her as both sweet and devious, creating rich narrative possibilities for her mother’s introduction.

Raisani also spoke about the decision to include the proposal scene, pointing out the “wonderful chemistry” between Torres and Woodside, actors who have worked together on multiple projects in the past.
