Broadcast Error Misspells Anna Wintour’s Name Before Paris 2024 Olympics, Fans React
Olympic Games Paris 2024
Before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, was interviewed, but the network made a notable error in the chyron, displaying her name as “Annal Wintour” instead of “Anna Wintour.”
A screengrab of the broadcast was soon posted on a fashion-focused Instagram account with the caption, “I need to have a conversation with y’all at French National Television because y’all can’t do this to my girl Anna! Like babes….”
Fans of the 74-year-old fashion icon had a field day with the misspelling in the comment section.
One fan joked, “This means war?” while others responded with, “indeed it does” and “we ride at dawn.”
Another fan referenced the film The Devil Wears Prada, saying, “I bet it was Jackeline Follet team,” referring to Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly’s rival.
“Welcome to the stage Annal Wintour,” quipped another commenter. “WELL!! My goodness, France! I hope you bought her some flowers or a pair of Loubis first!” added another humorously.
One thoughtful person suggested, “I think that is a | separating her first and last name.”
Another commented, “Could honestly be a human error mistake it definitely grabs one’s attention with the French spelling.”
Anna Wintour, born on November 3, 1949, in Hampstead, London, is the current editor-in-chief of Vogue, a magazine founded in 1892.
Her father, Charles Wintour, was the editor of the London Evening Standard and is considered one of the most influential journalists of the 20th century.
Anna began her fashion career at age 15 with a London boutique called BIBA.
In 1970, she started as an editorial assistant at Harper’s & Queen before moving to New York City. She worked as a junior fashion editor for Harper’s Bazaar and later joined the staff at Viva, Savvy, and New York magazine.
In the early 1980s, Anna joined Vogue as the magazine’s first-ever creative director. She became the editor of British Vogue in 1985 and took over as American Vogue’s editor-in-chief in 1988.
Her first cover as editor-in-chief featured Michaela Bercu in a Christian Lacroix jacket. In 2017, Wintour was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
Three years later, she became the Global Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast.
Anna Wintour was married to psychiatrist David Shaffer from 1984 to 1999, and they share two children, Charlie and Katherine.
She remarried in 2004 to multimillionaire Shelby Bryan, but the pair separated in 2020.
Since 2015, Wintour has been rumored to be dating actor Bill Nighy, although they have yet to confirm the relationship.
They have been spotted together multiple times, including a romantic dinner in Rome in 2021, and regularly make appearances together as of April 2023.
