Gabriel Attal Announces Lady Gaga’s Engagement

Olympic Games Paris 2024

Gabriel Attal’s role as French prime minister may be uncertain, but he could have a future in journalism after breaking the news that pop megastar Lady Gaga is engaged.

While watching the Olympic swimming, Attal congratulated the American singer on her “stunning performance” during the opening ceremony. She introduced her long-term boyfriend Michael Polansky as “Michael, my fiancé,” according to a video Attal posted on Sunday night on social media.

The American singer has been in Paris for several days after performing the cabaret anthem “Mon Truc en Plumes” (“My feathery thing”) by Zizi Jeanmaire on the banks of the Seine on Friday. Lady Gaga has not commented publicly on the engagement. Polansky, a tech entrepreneur, and the pop star have been dating for at least four years, according to public posts on social media.

Attal has maintained a composed demeanor since French politics was thrown into chaos when Emmanuel Macron called a snap election. The ensuing political tension means Attal will serve as head of a caretaker government until a new prime minister is appointed.

A senior French official from Attal’s team, who requested anonymity when discussing international pop news, said his boss was operating “on all fronts.”

Broadcast Error Misspells Anna Wintour’s Name Before Paris 2024 Olympics, Fans React

Broadcast Error Misspells Anna Wintour’s Name Before Paris 2024 Olympics, Fans React

Olympic Games Paris 2024

Before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games opening ceremony, Vogue’s editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour, was interviewed, but the network made a notable error in the chyron, displaying her name as “Annal Wintour” instead of “Anna Wintour.”

A screengrab of the broadcast was soon posted on a fashion-focused Instagram account with the caption, “I need to have a conversation with y’all at French National Television because y’all can’t do this to my girl Anna! Like babes….”

Fans of the 74-year-old fashion icon had a field day with the misspelling in the comment section.

One fan joked, “This means war?” while others responded with, “indeed it does” and “we ride at dawn.”

Another fan referenced the film The Devil Wears Prada, saying, “I bet it was Jackeline Follet team,” referring to Meryl Streep’s character Miranda Priestly’s rival.

“Welcome to the stage Annal Wintour,” quipped another commenter. “WELL!! My goodness, France! I hope you bought her some flowers or a pair of Loubis first!” added another humorously.

One thoughtful person suggested, “I think that is a | separating her first and last name.”

Another commented, “Could honestly be a human error mistake it definitely grabs one’s attention with the French spelling.”

Anna Wintour, born on November 3, 1949, in Hampstead, London, is the current editor-in-chief of Vogue, a magazine founded in 1892.

Her father, Charles Wintour, was the editor of the London Evening Standard and is considered one of the most influential journalists of the 20th century.

Anna began her fashion career at age 15 with a London boutique called BIBA.

In 1970, she started as an editorial assistant at Harper’s & Queen before moving to New York City. She worked as a junior fashion editor for Harper’s Bazaar and later joined the staff at Viva, Savvy, and New York magazine.

In the early 1980s, Anna joined Vogue as the magazine’s first-ever creative director. She became the editor of British Vogue in 1985 and took over as American Vogue’s editor-in-chief in 1988.

Her first cover as editor-in-chief featured Michaela Bercu in a Christian Lacroix jacket. In 2017, Wintour was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

Three years later, she became the Global Chief Content Officer for Condé Nast.

Anna Wintour was married to psychiatrist David Shaffer from 1984 to 1999, and they share two children, Charlie and Katherine.

She remarried in 2004 to multimillionaire Shelby Bryan, but the pair separated in 2020.

Since 2015, Wintour has been rumored to be dating actor Bill Nighy, although they have yet to confirm the relationship.

They have been spotted together multiple times, including a romantic dinner in Rome in 2021, and regularly make appearances together as of April 2023.

Celine Dion Triumphantly Returns to the Stage at Paris Olympics After Health Battle

Olympic Games Paris 2024

Celine Dion has made a triumphant return to the stage after revealing a serious health condition, delivering a powerful performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony. The Canadian superstar was initially rumored to perform a duet with Lady Gaga but instead gave a solo performance on the Eiffel Tower, concluding the four-hour event with a stirring rendition of Edith Piaf’s classic “L’Hymne à l’Amour.”

This marked Dion’s first live performance in four years and came a year and a half after she disclosed her diagnosis of Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle spasms and can impact her distinctive voice. At 56, Dion has been undergoing therapy to “rebuild” her voice, as she mentioned to the BBC in June. Her recent performance suggests the treatment is yielding positive results.

Performing on the first level of the Eiffel Tower with a pianist, Dion was surrounded by the giant illuminated Olympic rings. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau praised her, calling her “a Canadian icon, an incredible talent” and commending her perseverance. Italian singer Laura Pausini expressed her emotional reaction to Dion’s performance.

Dion’s fans eagerly awaited her appearance, with many gathering outside her hotel in Paris. She enjoys a significant following in France, where her 1995 album “D’eux” remains the best-selling French-language album of all time. This performance was her second participation in an Olympic opening ceremony, following her involvement in Atlanta in 1996.

Her comeback also follows a surprise appearance at the Grammys six months ago, where she presented an award. Additionally, Dion has hinted at a new residency in Las Vegas, stating in June, “We have been working so hard to put this show together – because I’m back.” She currently holds the record for the most successful residency on the Las Vegas Strip.

Dion recently shared her struggles with SPS in a documentary titled “I Am: Celine Dion,” which has become Amazon Prime Video’s most successful documentary to date.

Djokovic and Nadal Set for Potential Early Showdown at Olympic Tennis Event

Paris 2024 Olympics preview

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal are on track for an early-round clash at the Olympic Tennis Event, as revealed by the draw on Thursday.

The two rivals, who have met 59 times in their Lexus ATP head-to-head series, could face each other in the second round. Top-seeded Djokovic will start against Australia’s Matthew Ebden, while unseeded Nadal will play Hungarian Marton Fucsovics in the first round. Djokovic leads their series 30-29, but Nadal won their only Olympic meeting in the 2008 Beijing semi-finals and went on to win the title. Nadal also has a strong record against Djokovic at Roland Garros, winning eight out of their ten encounters there, including their most recent match in the 2022 quarter-finals.

Two-time Olympic singles gold medallist Andy Murray has withdrawn from the singles competition but will compete in doubles with Daniel Evans.

Second seed Carlos Alcaraz will face Lebanon’s Hady Habib in his opening match. The winner will then face either Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor or Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie in the second round.

Defending champion and third seed Alexander Zverev will play Spain’s Jaume Munar in the first round.

The doubles draw, also released on Thursday, has Nadal and Alcaraz set to compete against the sixth-seeded Argentine pair of Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni.
