Oprah Winfrey Hospitalized for Severe Stomach Virus, Gayle King Reports

Oprah Winfrey has reportedly been hospitalized due to a severe stomach ailment, according to her close friend and journalist Gayle King. King shared the news on Tuesday during ‘CBS Mornings,’ explaining Winfrey’s absence from the show was due to what appeared to be a serious stomach virus.

“Yesterday she said, ‘I’m going to rally, I’m going to rally.’ She had some kind of stomach flu with symptoms that were quite severe. I won’t get too graphic,” King said.

King further explained that Winfrey ended up in the hospital due to dehydration and required an IV. “It was a very serious situation,” she emphasized, but reassured viewers, “She will be OK. She will be OK.”

King also mentioned that she hoped Winfrey wouldn’t be upset with her for sharing the details but wanted to convey how much it mattered to Winfrey to be present for her audience. In Winfrey’s absence, King announced the latest book club selection and interviewed author David Wroblewski, highlighting the book’s exploration of love, friendship, and life’s true purpose.

A spokesperson for Winfrey confirmed her hospitalization and recovery, noting that she had received an IV for dehydration following a stomach virus, as recommended by her doctor. The spokesperson did not provide further details about her hospital stay or the specific cause of her illness.

In December, Winfrey told People magazine about the relief she felt with the availability of medically approved prescriptions for managing weight and health. “I now use it as I feel I need it, as a tool to manage not yo-yo-ing,” she shared.
