Reese Witherspoon’s August 2024 Book Club Pick Revealed

Reese Witherspoon’s August 2024 Book Club Pick Revealed

Since 2017, Reese Witherspoon has been recommending books each month, amassing a loyal following of 30.2 million on Instagram and 2.5 million subscribers to Reese’s Book Club. Her only criterion for selection is that the story must center around a woman.

The club’s selections cover a range of genres, from romance and historical fiction to psychological thrillers like Paula Hawkins’ The Girl on The Train. This makes it a great resource for finding reading inspiration either from past picks or the latest monthly selection.

Books featured in Reese Witherspoon’s book club, such as Brit Bennett’s The Vanishing Half and Delia Owens’ Where the Crawdads Sing, not only dominate bestseller lists but also often get adapted for the screen. Her championing of female-centric stories has had a significant impact, even reaching into the film industry.

For August 2024, the book club pick is a decade-spanning romance filled with nostalgia and unexpected twists. Fans of David Nicholls’s One Day will enjoy Rainbow Rowell’s new will-they-won’t-they romance. The story follows Shiloh and Cary, best friends in high school who never took their relationship further, despite everyone’s expectations. Fourteen years later, Shiloh has gone through college, marriage, divorce, and has two kids, while Cary joined the Navy. Shiloh’s thoughts turn to Cary when she gets invited to an old friend’s wedding.

Critics have described the book as a modern-day Jane Austen tale, calling it both hilarious and powerful. Reese Witherspoon praised it, saying, “It invites you into the bittersweet world of Shiloh and Cary, where childhood promises are tested by time, and love finds its way back through unexpected twists.” The book launches on August 8, 2024, and is available for pre-order, just in time for summer reading.

Nicole Kidman Confirms Third Season of ‘Big Little Lies’ in the Works

Lead star Nicole Kidman has confirmed that the third season of “Big Little Lies” is in development, revealing that author Liane Moriarty is penning a new book for the series.

In an interview with Vanity Fair alongside former co-star Reese Witherspoon, Kidman expressed excitement about the upcoming season, urging fans to stay patient for its release. The show, which revolves around four women in a wealthy Californian town whose lives are upended by a murder, has garnered widespread acclaim.

Kidman emphasized the importance of not discussing projects prematurely, citing the psychological phenomenon of feeling accomplished merely by talking about them.

Both Kidman and Witherspoon, who portrayed Celeste Wright and Madeline Mackenzie respectively, reflected on the show’s unexpected success. Initially conceived as a limited series, “Big Little Lies” defied expectations with its shifting tone and captivating storytelling.

Witherspoon admitted to initial doubts about the show’s potential audience, only to be pleasantly surprised by its reception. The first season debuted in 2017, followed by the second season in 2019.
